Trailing 2-0 from the
first leg, the Dons valiantly fought back to win the second leg 2-1 but they couldn't force extra time, as the Terriers held firm to secure a play-off final
meeting with Sheffield United.
“I think we deserved
to win the two legs” Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio at full time.
“We switched off
twice at home and once today, but overall we played much the better Football,
what a proud night to be an MK Dons fan.”
The Dons had strong
claims for a first half penalty turned down by referee Scott Mathieson with the
scores level on the night at 1-1.
A similarly
significant decision went against Robinson’s side during Saturday’s first leg,
when a Huddersfield player was allowed back onto the field of play whilst the
Terriers were on the attack.
The Dons manager
continued: “We conceded a goal on Saturday by the official allowing a player
back onto the pitch that led to their goal and we have seen it again here today
a blatant penalty that we haven’t been given.”
Robinson feels the
decision not to award his side a penalty was pivotal in the overall outcome of
the tie.
He added: “If that
goes in that’s 2-1, only one goal in it with 45 minutes to go, but I am so
proud of my players.”
The MK Dons boss
refused to be drawn on his future at the League One club but has reassured fans
that the Dons will win promotion at some stage in the near future.
He concluded: “I
would like to say thanks to our fans for the season, I’m sorry to have let you
down, but this club will get there one day.”
