Lee Noble’s high quality, 25-yard strike just 186 seconds into the final was enough to secure the Darts a spot in the Blue Square bet Premier for the first time in 26 years.
The Wings rarely threatened a largely untroubled Darts defence, Joe Healy spurned the visitor’s best chance firing over following Luis Cumbers’ cut back 10 minutes before the break.
In front of sell out crowd of 4500, Dartford almost doubled their lead early in the second half, Elliot Bradbrook’s goal bound header was well kept out by Craig Holloway.
But the Darts, who finished eight points above the Wings in the regular league season, weathered a late Welling storm to join champions Woking in the fifth tier of English Football.
For Dartford, it was a second promotion in three years but for Jamie Day’s Welling, it was a case of not turning up when it mattered most as his side must now contemplate a further season in the Blue Square South.
Speaking post-match Day told BBC Radio Kent: “We were disappointed to concede an early goal and for all of the possession we had, we probably lacked a little bit in the final third.”
Despite missing out on promotion, Day has been delighted with the improvements the Kent-based club have made this season, after failing to make the play-offs last campaign.
Day continued: “ I'm pleased with the effort and the commitment shown and I think the boys can be proud of what they achieved this year.”
